As an Assistant Claims Handler, you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience managing claims across key products such as Professional Indemnity, Directors & Officers (D&O), Cyber, and Financial Institutions insurance. If you’re seeking a role that offers real responsibility, problem-solving, and meaningful client interaction from day one, this position provides an excellent pathway into a specialist and highly regarded area of the industry. **What Makes This Role Attractive** * Entry point into a specialist insurance class * Early responsibility with strong support and guidance * Exposure to complex and interesting claims scenarios * Clear career development and professional qualification support * Collaborative and professional working environment * Structured onboarding and training programme in Financial Lines Claims * Ongoing mentorship from experienced Claims Handlers and Managers * Support towards professional qualifications (e.g., CII) * Clear progression pathway into a full Claims Handler role and beyond **Key Responsibilities** * Assist in the handling of Financial Lines claims under supervision, including Professional Indemnity, D&O, and related products * Review claim documentation, policy wordings, and related materials * Communicate with brokers, clients, insurers, and external partners/stakeholders in a professional manner * Ensure claims are handled in line with approved authority level, internal procedures and regulatory requirements * Proactively manage claim files ensuring all documentation is correctly filed and claims are regularly updated, diarised and managed proactively * Ensure that claims are handled promptly, fairly and with integrity in accordance with The Hartford claims management guidelines * Maintain portfolio of Financial Lines TPA/DCA loss bdx and payments * Maintain the highest standards of communication with claims management and underwriting to ensure that information on significant claims and claims trends is shared expeditiously * Liaise with other departments as appropriate including but not limited to Underwriting; Finance; Actuaries and Reinsurance * Attend market claim meetings as required * Ensure compliance with Lloyds minimum standards and all regulatory and statutory requirements relating to claims handling **Skills & Experience** Essential: * Customer focused mentality * Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn * A team player and self-motivated * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills * Excellent written and verbal communication * Good attention to detail and organisation * Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively * Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach Desirable (but not essential): * Professional Qualification (CII, Dip CII) * Prior exposure to insurance, legal, or financial services environment * Interest in Financial Lines products and the London insurance market * Understanding of ECF, Docosoft system * 365 Copilot [About Us](https://www.thehartford.com/about-us) | [Our Culture](https://www.thehartford.com/about-us/corporate-culture) | [What It’s Like to Work Here](https://www.thehartford.com/careers/our-employees)
