Job Description

U.S. Embassy in Helsinki is seeking a Commercial Assistant to join our Foreign Commercial Service (FCS) team. This is a fixed-term contract to substitute for a colleague on parental leave (initially until end of December 2027). The FCS helps strengthen U.S.–Finland commercial ties by supporting U.S. companies interested in the Finnish market and helping Finnish businesses connect with U.S. partners. We also work to attract foreign investment into the United States and promote bilateral trade across a wide range of industries. We are looking for a skilled and motivated professional to support this mission by advising companies, analyzing market conditions, and organizing activities that connect U.S. and Finnish businesses. In this role, you will help companies identify opportunities, understand regulations, and develop strategies for successful cooperation. You will play a key part in advancing U.S. commercial interests in Finland while supporting Finnish businesses seeking American products and partners. This position may be filled at different salary levels depending on the selected candidate’s previous work experience. Key Responsibilities: Advise U.S. companies exploring opportunities in Finland and assist Finnish firms seeking U.S. products, services, and partners. Analyze market trends and prepare clear, accurate reports to help companies make informed decisions. Support trade promotion activities, including business matchmaking, outreach, and event organization. Build and maintain a wide network of business and government contacts across key industry sectors in Finland. Provide guidance on U.S. and Finnish regulations that affect trade and investment opportunities. Track client satisfaction and maintain client records using systems such as Salesforce. Identify new clients, develop scopes of work, and negotiate fee‑based service agreements. Prepare analytical market research reports for distribution through official U.S. Department of Commerce systems. Support initiatives to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into the United States. Manage event logistics for trade promotion activities and client engagements. Investigate trade-related complaints raised by U.S. companies and recommend solutions to supervisors. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in: Business Administration, Management, Economics, International Trade, or International Relations. One to three years of progressively responsible experience in business, government, market research, or industry associations in one or more of the following fields: sales, marketing, business development, trade promotion, or international trade. Final salary depends on the amount of previous work experience. The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience working with a government trade or commercial organization to promote exports and attract inward investment. Experience engaging with companies, government agencies, and other stakeholders to support international business development, market entry, and investment promotion is highly desirable Fluent in English and Finnish Understanding of Finland’s economy, business culture, industry practices, and trade/investment regulations Standard knowledge of U.S. business practices Ability to develop and maintain contacts with government officials and company executives Strong communication skills, including writing reports, emails, and presentations Ability to analyze information, identify business opportunities, and advise clients Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects Additional Information: Full‑time position: 40 hours per week Fixed-term contract: November 1, 2026 – December 31, 2027 (initial period) Salary (based on verified previous work experience): - 1 year: 41 982 EUR/year - 2 years: 46 016 EUR/year - 3+ years: 51 468 EUR/ per year Benefits: Bi‑weekly salary payments Paid Finnish and U.S. public holidays (20 days per year) On-site gym Training opportunities & personal development Required Documents for the Application: Proof of right to work in Finland (passport or residency permit) Copy of Bachelor’s degree diploma or transcript Please submit your application through our careers site by the indicated closing date.
