Job Description
We're hiring a mid-level to upper-level Communications & Marketing Manager to own the day-to-day execution of Karman's external voice and internal alignment as we scale from early commercial deals into a category-defining company. This is a builder's role: you'll work directly with the CEO and leadership team to turn deeply technical, fast-moving work (customer deals, product milestones, engineering breakthroughs) into clear, credible communications — both to the outside world and across our own team.
You won't be starting from zero — there's an existing point of view, a growing library of technical narrative, and senior leadership deeply engaged in comms. What we need is someone who can take that raw material and turn it into consistent execution: content calendars, drafts, internal updates, press coordination, and event/launch logistics.
Responsibilities
- Brand & category building: Support the "category creation" mandate for sCO₂ thermal infrastructure — help establish Karman's voice as the default reference point in a market segment that's still being defined. Partner with external creative agencies as needed.
- Founder & executive content: Draft and refine social media posts, announcements, blogs, and talking points in the company's voice — plain, facts-first, substance over rhetorical flourish. Turn technical updates (product milestones, funding news, customer wins) into clear external narrative.
- Press & external relations: Coordinate press releases (e.g., BusinessWire), manage media inquiries, and help build relationships with national and trade press covering data center infrastructure, semiconductors, and AI capex.
- Internal communications: Own regular internal updates that keep a fast-growing, distributed team aligned across company milestones, org changes, culture and recognition moments.
- Launch & event support: Help plan and execute moments like factory facility opening, award announcements, and customer/investor-facing events.
- Marketing operations: Manage content calendars and maintain brand consistency across decks and collateral.
Required Qualifications:
- 3–6+ years of experience in communications, marketing, or content roles, ideally at a startup, deep tech, industrial, or infrastructure company where you had to make technical work legible to a broad audience.
- Excellent writer with a track record of shipping clean, clear copy fast, someone who can match an established voice rather than impose a new one.
- Comfortable working directly with a CEO and technical leadership; able to extract the substance from an engineering conversation and turn it into a sentence a customer or investor will actually read.
- Experience with press coordination, LinkedIn/executive ghostwriting, agency or freelancer coordination, or B2B content marketing.
- Organized self-starter - this role covers a wide surface area (internal + external, written + event) and requires prioritizing without much hand-holding.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with data centers, semiconductors, energy infrastructure, or industrial/hardware startups.
