Job Description
Citi is looking for a Credit Officer at the Assistant Vice President level to join its Institutional Credit Management (ICM) team, a first line of defense function responsible for end-to-end credit underwriting and monitoring across Citi's wholesale institutional client base. In this individual contributor role, you will own the full credit assessment lifecycle for a portfolio of Financial Institutions clients — including banks, broker-dealers, and insurance companies — with a focus on supporting relationships across Japan and Hong Kong. Your credit judgements will directly inform approval decisions at one of the world's leading global banks, making this a high-impact opportunity for a credit professional ready to operate with real ownership and precision.
Responsibilities
----------------
* Own a dedicated portfolio of Financial Institutions clients — including banks, broker-dealers, and insurance companies — conducting ongoing credit risk assessment and continuous portfolio monitoring to maintain accurate and current credit positions.
* Lead the preparation of Credit Approval Memo packages, ensuring all documentation is complete, accurate, and reflects a thorough evaluation of the client's credit profile ahead of approval.
* Conduct in-depth financial analysis, due diligence, projection modelling, stress testing, and risk rating assessments to evaluate client creditworthiness and support lending decisions.
* Execute the end-to-end underwriting process, from early origination discussions through to final credit memo development, in alignment with global and regional credit standards.
* Produce annual and quarterly portfolio reviews, as well as ad-hoc transaction analyses and industry-level stress testing, to support proactive risk identification and monitoring.
* Assess financing and product structures, evaluating risk asset allocation and risk capital considerations in coordination with Banking and Risk stakeholders.
* Build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders across Banking, Risk, regulatory bodies, Internal Audit, and control functions to support sound credit decision-making.
* Contribute to strategic initiatives and projects within the ICM Underwriting organisation, applying credit expertise to support broader business objectives.
Required Qualifications & Skills
--------------------------------
* Five to eight years of relevant experience in credit risk, credit underwriting, or a related financial services discipline, with direct exposure to Financial Institutions such as banks, broker-dealers, or insurers.
* Demonstrated ability to assess the creditworthiness of institutional clients through rigorous financial analysis, including projection modelling, stress testing, and risk rating methodology.
* Solid grounding in global credit risk management standards and the ability to evaluate complex financing structures and product arrangements.
* Clear and confident communicator — both written and verbal — with the ability to present well-reasoned credit assessments to audiences of varying seniority and background.
* Effective at building working relationships across multiple functions and geographies, navigating organisational complexity to deliver balanced and timely credit outcomes.
* Demonstrated ability to assess risk-return trade-offs across transactions and client relationships, providing balanced, evidence-based recommendations to stakeholders.
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field.
Beneficial Skills & Qualifications
----------------------------------
* Familiarity with local market dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and the competitive landscape across the Japan and Hong Kong financial sectors.
* Experience engaging with regulators, internal audit functions, or external oversight bodies in a credit or risk capacity.
* Exposure to portfolio-level and industry-level credit review processes, including sector stress testing and thematic risk analysis.
What We Offer
-------------
At Citi, you will work within a high-performing global team that operates at the centre of institutional credit decision-making. This role offers genuine ownership over a meaningful client portfolio, direct exposure to senior stakeholders, and the opportunity to deepen your expertise across one of the most dynamic regions in global financial services.
* A hybrid working model structured around 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely, providing flexibility while maintaining strong team collaboration.
* Regional scope and impact, with direct responsibility for client portfolios across Japan and Hong Kong, offering meaningful cross-border exposure at the institutional level.
* Access to structured learning and development programmes to support continued professional growth in credit risk and financial services.
* A collaborative, performance-driven environment where your credit work directly shapes outcomes for major institutional clients.
* Competitive compensation and access to Citi's broader financial wellbeing and employee support programmes.
* The scale and breadth of a leading global bank, with the career progression opportunities that come with it.
