Design Technician

### Design Technician MUST have a passport - as there will be 2 weeks' training in the UK once you are offered the role Huge advantage if you have dual citizenship that allows you to travel without a visa for training in the UK Once you return from training it will be a fully remote based role. Purpose of the Role The purpose of the Design Technician role is to support our technical and engineering teams by producing accurate, compliant, and well-presented CAD drawings that underpin high-quality below-ground substructure and structural waterproofing solutions. ### The role exists to: * Translate technical concepts, design intent, and specifications into clear and accurate CAD drawings • Support engineers and technical managers with reliable design information • Ensure drawings meet internal standards, industry best practice, and project requirements • Maintain consistency, accuracy, and efficiency across all technical drawing outputs In short, the Design Technician ensures that our technical designs are communicated clearly, accurately, and professionally through high-quality CAD documentation. ### Working Pattern & Reporting ### Role Type: Full Time (07:30 – 17:00) ### Working Pattern: Monday to Friday Reporting To: Technical Lead (or Internal Design Manager) What success looks like ### Key Result Area Measure Target Drawing Accuracy Error-free technical drawings Right first time Timeliness Drawing issued to programme 100% on time Standards Compliance Alignment with internal and industry standards Full Compliance File Management CAD files organised and accessible Always up to date Core Responsibilities You are accountable for: CAD Drawing Production * Produce detailed CAD drawings using AutoCAD to support design and engineering requirements • Develop construction details, layouts, and technical drawings for below-ground substructure and structural waterproofing solutions • Interpret sketches, mark-ups, specifications, and design information accurately • Update and revise drawings in line with feedback from engineers, technical managers, or clients ### Technical Support & Collaboration * Work closely with the internal technical team to understand project requirements and design intent • Support engineers with drawing production during concept, detailed design, and construction phases • Communicate clearly with colleagues to clarify technical details and resolve queries ### Quality Control & Accuracy * Carry out self-checks and quality reviews on all drawings prior to issue • Ensure drawings are accurate, complete, and coordinated • Maintain drawing consistency, correct layering, scales, and annotations ### Document & File Management * Maintain an organised and logical CAD file structure • Ensure drawings are correctly named, version controlled, and archived • Support the maintenance of standard details, libraries, and templates ### Continuous Improvement * Support the development and refinement of standard details and drawing practices • Keep up to date with CAD standards, software updates, and industry developments • Contribute to improving drawing efficiency and quality across the business What Good Looks Like The following core attributes are imperative: ### Accuracy & Discipline * Drawings are clear, consistent, and technically correct • Errors are minimal and caught before issue • Standards and best practice are followed without exception ### Collaboration & Attitude * Works constructively with engineers and technical colleagues • Open to feedback and willing to refine designs • Proactive in identifying issues or improvements ### Professionalism * Takes pride in the quality of work produced ### • Reliable, organised, and methodical * Represents the technical team professionally at all times ### Expectations & Deliverables * Produce accurate CAD drawings to agreed standards and timescales • Support the technical team across live projects and design development • Maintain organised and up-to-date CAD records • Contribute positively to the efficiency and reputation of the technical function • Operate with professionalism, confidentiality, and attention to detail at all times ### Requirements Skills, Knowledge & Experience The following are important for success in the role: * Proficiency in AutoCAD * Strong understanding of technical drawings, plans, sections, and details * High level of attention to detail and accuracy * Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines * Effective communication skills ### Desirable (but not essential): * Experience in below-ground substructure design and/or structural waterproofing * Previous experience in a design, engineering, or construction-related environment * Relevant qualification or training in engineering, construction, or design ### Benefits Opportunity to work with a leader in the UK market as they spearhead their global presence as their next scaling goal Salary R20 000 - R25 000 based on experience & current package A huge opportunity to grow & be one of their first offshore hires Originally posted on [Himalayas](https://himalayas.app)
