Key Responsibilities:
* Partner with the Hong Kong, Mainland China and international sales teams to develop and execute a consistent regional sales strategy, while representing Japanese client needs in product development and commercial planning.
* Originate new business from Japan-based corporates, financial institutions and asset managers by identifying client needs, strategic entry points and opportunities suited to the firm’s platform.
* Build and maintain senior-level relationships with Japanese life insurers, banks, asset managers and corporates, and convert market access into sustainable client engagement and revenue opportunities.
* Provide business intelligence on Japanese corporate and financial-institution activity, including relevant market trends, regulatory developments and capital flows in the RMB and JPY markets.
* Work closely with onshore China and Hong Kong teams to capture opportunities involving Chinese clients with operations, investments or interests in Japan, serving as a bridge for cross-border client flows.
* Collaborate with DCM and relevant product partners to explore Dim Sum bond issuance, cross-currency funding and hedging solutions for Japanese issuers and institutional clients.
* Promote the firm’s RMB capabilities, including collateral swap and funding solutions, and identify alternative and cost-efficient funding opportunities for Japanese institutions.
* Leverage an established senior network to strengthen Macro, including FX and Rates, and Credit flow business with Japanese clients.
* Coordinate with Hong Kong Middle and Back Office teams to support new business implementation, including operational readiness and cross-border settlement.
* Comply with all applicable Mainland China, Hong Kong and Japan legal, regulatory, conduct, risk management and internal policy requirements.
Job Specification:
* **Education:** Bachelor’s degree or above in Finance, Economics, Business, Law or a related discipline. An advanced degree or relevant professional qualification is preferred.
* **Experience:** Substantial front-office sales or client-coverage experience in Japan, preferably within a leading investment bank, securities firm, commercial bank or other major financial institution, at a level commensurate with the proposed appointment.
* **Track Record:** Demonstrated success in originating and developing institutional business with Japanese corporates, banks, life insurers, asset managers and/or other financial institutions.
* **Market and Product Knowledge:** Strong understanding of Japanese financial markets and client behaviour, with practical knowledge of RMB and JPY markets and products across FX, Rates and Credit.
* **Cross-border Solutions:** Working knowledge of cross-border financing, funding and hedging solutions. Experience in Dim Sum bonds, cross-currency solutions, collateral swaps or DCM collaboration is preferred.
* **Client Network:** Established senior-level relationships in the Japanese institutional market, with the ability to convert market access into sustainable client engagement and commercial opportunities.
* **Languages:** Native-level or fully professional Japanese and strong business English are required. Mandarin Chinese is an advantage.
* **Core Competencies:** Strong communication, negotiation, stakeholder management and commercial judgement, with the ability to operate independently in a cross-cultural and matrixed environment.
* **Integrity and Conduct:** High standards of integrity and a strong understanding of conduct, compliance, risk management and regulatory obligations relevant to cross-border financial business.
