This is a specialized, civilian position involving the operation of the Police Communications Unit. The Lead Communications Specialist is responsible for coordinating and supervising Communications Specialists in the receipt of requests for emergency and non-emergency services and coordinates the dispatch of resources. Serves as a leader to maintain high morale and high productivity of the unit to ensure assigned duties and tasks are to be performed in an effective, efficient, and safe manner. **Accepting applications from Monday, July 20th through Friday, July 31st. If you are selected, interviews will be held on Wednesday, August 12th.** **During the hiring process, a thorough background investigation will take place, along with drug testing and a polygraph examination. The use of marijuana and/or other illegal substances within 6 months of application is disqualifying.** **Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**  1\. Performs all principal duties and responsibilities of a Communications Specialist and assists in the performance of Communications Specialists to ensure quality service. Assists in handling more difficult calls for service.  2\. Coordinates with Patrol Supervision to ensure that continuous service is provided.  3\. Assists the Communications Unit Supervisor to schedule minimum coverage to ensure proper staffing levels.   4\. Recommends actions related to hiring, discipline, advancement and other changes in employee status of Communications Specialists.  Provides input in the performance appraisals to the Communications Unit Supervisor.  5\. Coordinates with the Communications Supervisor to schedule and deliver the necessary training to meet minimum standards of performance.  6\. Ensures compliance with City and Department policies, as well as, operating procedures.  7\. Participates in Unit meetings to ensure that the Unit is fulfilling its role in the Department’s mission, goal and objectives.  8\. Assists the public as well as department personnel regarding information concerning the operation and function of the Communications Unit.  9\. Prepares reports, documents, memoranda and correspondence.  10\. Receives and forwards complaints to the Communications Supervisor. **Minimum Qualifications:**  1\. Must be 21 years of age at time of employment.  2\. High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).  3\. Must be a United States citizen or authorized alien worker.  4\. Valid state Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and acceptable driving record.  5\. Credible work history with moderate experience required; three (3) years of experience as a Communications Specialist (Dispatcher) required; or an Associate’s Degree in Communications or related field and two (2) years’ experience.  6\. No felony convictions or commission of or participation in any felony crime, whether detected or not.  7\. No on-going or repetitious history of committing or participating in Misdemeanor crimes, whether detected or not.  8\. Must have or be able to obtain REJIS and MULES Certification within six (6) months of hire. Certified Training Officer certification within one (1) year of hire.  9\. If applicable, pass required testing.  **EOE**
