Lead Groundskeeper

This job will be accepting job applications until the position is filled. **Annual Salary:** $40,579.50 - $42,900.00 **Hourly:** $20.81 - $22.00 **Department:** Culture & Recreation, Grounds Maintenance **Division:** Park & Landscape Maintenance **FLSA:** Non-Exempt **Job Description:** In this role, you will assist in the maintenance of public parks, property or rights-of-way using a variety of machines, tools and equipment, and lead the crew in the absence of the Crew Leader.  ###  Examples of Duties: * Instructs other members of crews in proper operational procedures and techniques. * Assists the Crew Leader in coordinating the tasks to be performed by the crew; supervises the crew in the absence of the Crew Leader. * Operates city vehicles and equipment, to include trucks and trailers. * May requisition or purchase supplies and equipment. * Cuts lawns. * Trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls.  * Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs.  * Sprays lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides. * Cleans grounds and removes litter. * Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts. * Makes minor on-site repairs to equipment such as lawn mower, spreader, and weed trimming equipment; sharpens tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, and shears.  * Receives instruction and training in proper safety precautions, use of tools, etc. required in maintenance. * Performs any other related duties as assigned. ###  Basic Qualifications: * Two years of experience * High school diploma/GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience * Valid state issued driver's license. * Ability to use a smart phone device and computer software The City of Charleston is firmly committed to Equal Employment Opportunity ( EEOC) as a fundamental policy to be implemented and observed in our daily operation.  Our full EEOC statement can be found on our website: [www.charleston-sc.gov \[charleston-sc.gov\]](https://urldefense.com/v3/__http:/www.charleston-sc.gov__;!!EaFwQfVEJhAZolrQq2b3eQ!QBa-8W6QZlJrr9Kit6_8xWc8nrmWB7BFjgDF3yUlBFQvwO9FazyMlTItb88uuyMJGaSAyhd0G4DhSiZ-_35oQNXr3iOn1WqEJVU$)
