This role applies fundamental engineering principles to solve well‑defined problems and supports product development, manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives. **Job Description** Role Overview The Mechanical Engineer I supports engineering projects by performing engineering calculations, developing design concepts, assisting with testing or validation activities, and supporting documentation and change processes. The role is developmental in nature and focuses on building core engineering skills, technical judgment, and understanding of products, processes, and systems. This position typically reports to a Mechanical Engineering Manager, Lead Mechanical Engineer, or Engineering Supervisor. Key Responsibilities Mechanical Design & Engineering Support Support the design and development of mechanical components, assemblies, or systems Apply basic mechanical engineering principles to solve routine engineering problems Assist with generating design concepts, layouts, and supporting documentation Analysis & Calculations Perform basic engineering analyses (e.g., strength, load, tolerance, thermal) under guidance Support validation of designs through calculations, simulations, or testing Document assumptions, results, and conclusions clearly CAD & Documentation Support Create or review CAD models and drawings in collaboration with designers Ensure designs and drawings align with engineering intent and requirements Support preparation and maintenance of bills of materials, specifications, and reports Engineering Change & Configuration Support Support engineering change processes, including evaluation and documentation of changes Assess impact of changes on form, fit, function, and manufacturability Assist with implementation of approved engineering changes Manufacturing & Cross‑Functional Collaboration Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to support production needs Assist with resolving engineering issues identified on the shop floor or during testing Support design‑for‑manufacturability and design‑for‑assembly efforts Testing, Validation & Quality Support Assist with prototype builds, testing, or validation activities Support root cause investigations and corrective actions for engineering issues Ensure compliance with applicable safety, quality, and regulatory requirements Learning & Professional Development Build knowledge of products, materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering standards Learn company engineering tools, systems, and procedures Participate in training, mentoring, and development activities Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline required Entry‑level role; typically 0–2 years of engineering experience Internship, co‑op, or academic project experience in mechanical engineering preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Fundamental knowledge of mechanical engineering principles Basic understanding of materials, mechanics, and manufacturing processes Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar) Ability to perform basic engineering calculations and analysis Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills Clear written and verbal communication skills Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy Willingness to learn and accept technical guidance Salary - $68k -$72K **Additional Job Details** Technical – T1 Organizational Impact • Works to achieve operational, functional, and/or business targets within job area with indirect impact on departmental or job family results, using basic technical principles • Entry-level technical contributor; follows standard processes and works under supervision • Failure to achieve results typically requires allocation of additional resources and may result in additional financial expense • Work is defined by others within smaller, less complex projects/assignments and generally more limited in scope Communication & Influence • Communicates with contacts typically within the team on matters that involve obtaining or providing information requiring some explanation or interpretation in order to reach agreement Innovation & Complexity • May be responsible for contributing to recommended enhancements in technical/business systems and processes to solve problems or improve effectiveness within job area • Problems are routine, drawing from standard procedures and basic analysis, but may require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures Leadership & Talent Management • N/A – Jobs at this level are focused on self-development Knowledge & Experience • Requires understanding of basic context of technical and business environment, typically obtained through advanced education; may have limited to no experience **Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action at Nidec** Nidec is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Affirmative Action Employer encouraging diversity in the workplace.
