For more information, visit [www.wilderness.org](https://www.wilderness.org/). **Position Overview** The Midlevel Donor Engagement Specialist is a one-year term position within The Wilderness Society’s Giving & Impact department, created to expand the capacity of the Advocates for Wilderness giving program during an important period of growth. The Advocates program includes donors who contribute $1,000-$24,999 annually—a group that provides significant current revenue while serving as the primary pipeline for future major gift prospects. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Advocate Giving & Impact, this role applies marketing and communications expertise within a philanthropy setting. The Specialist will help design and execute mass-personalization strategies that make every Advocate donor feel recognized and connected to the organization’s mission through scalable engagement efforts. The position also supports the development and implementation of tailored communication tracks that strengthen donor relationships at scale. In addition to supporting cultivation and stewardship across the full Advocate portfolio, this position focuses on engaging donors in priority regions where data indicates significant growth opportunities, including the Mountain West (particularly Utah and New Mexico) and the Upper Great Lakes. This position plays an important role in fostering an organizational culture where people feel respected, included, and accountable to shared goals. Across our team, we strive to be campaign-oriented, collaborative, innovative, transparent, and supportive of our staff—our greatest asset. **Essential Duties & Responsibilities** #### Mass Personalization & Geographic Cultivation * Support the Senior Manager, Advocate Giving & Impact in executing a segmented, multichannel communications strategy for approximately 1,700 Advocate donors, tailoring outreach frequency, content, and format by donor segment. * Create quarterly impact reports and stewardship communications that demonstrate the conservation impact of donor support. * Develop region-specific engagement strategies for donors in the Mountain West and Upper Great Lakes, connecting their giving to conservation and policy outcomes in the places they care about. #### Pipeline Development & Major Gift Handoffs * Assist the Senior Manager and Senior Research Analyst in developing a donor engagement scoring system using giving history, wealth indicators, legacy interest, and engagement behaviors to identify major gift prospects. * Maintain a well-documented prospect pipeline for Major Gift Officers, including relationship history and recommended next steps. * Support moves management between midlevel and major gift teams by participating in quarterly prospecting meetings and maintaining clear donor transition protocols. #### Data, Systems & Reporting * Work with the Senior Manager and Senior Operations Specialist to monitor key performance metrics, including donor assessments, portfolio transfers, upgrades, and gift growth. * Maintain accurate CRM records documenting donor interactions, engagement scores, communication preferences, and related information. #### Collaboration & Cross-Team Coordination * Partner closely with the Senior Manager, Advocate Giving & Impact to ensure consistent donor engagement across both personalized and high-touch fundraising strategies. * Coordinate with Planned Giving staff to incorporate legacy giving opportunities into Advocate communications and facilitate donor introductions. * Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Giving & Impact Events to support donor briefings and engagement events through content development and logistical coordination. * Perform other related duties as assigned. #### Other * Follow all organizational policies and procedures, including finance, human resources, and legal requirements, to maintain a compliant and efficient work environment. **Qualifications** The ideal candidate will possess most or all of the following: * Three to five years of experience in direct response marketing, donor communications, digital marketing, or a related field, with demonstrated success developing segmented, multichannel communication strategies. * Experience in nonprofit fundraising or philanthropy preferred, along with a strong commitment to conservation, environmental advocacy, or public lands. * Excellent writing skills and the ability to translate complex conservation or policy work into compelling donor communications. * Experience using CRM platforms and marketing automation systems. Familiarity with ROI Solutions, Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, or similar donor databases is preferred. * Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret engagement metrics, create basic dashboards, and use data to inform communications. * Experience working effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. * Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. * Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and accountability in a remote or hybrid environment. * Creative, detail-oriented communication skills and enthusiasm for connecting donors to mission-driven work. * Strong collaboration skills, emotional intelligence, flexibility, and a track record of working across teams.
