**Electrical Operating Engineer** **–** **JLL**
**What this job involves:**
**As an Electrical Operating Engineer at JLL, you'll be at the forefront of maintaining and optimizing critical electrical systems that power world-class facilities. This role combines technical expertise with strategic problem-solving as you monitor, operate, and maintain electrical distribution systems, emergency power equipment, and building automation controls. You'll work collaboratively with facility teams and clients to ensure uninterrupted operations while identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements and preventive maintenance. **What your day-to-day will look like:**
* **Monitor and operate electrical distribution systems including switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, and power distribution panels to ensure reliable facility operations**
* **Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on emergency generators, UPS systems, automatic transfer switches, and other critical electrical equipment**
* **Respond promptly to electrical system alarms, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to minimize downtime and maintain business continuity**
* **Conduct regular inspections and testing of electrical systems in accordance with safety codes, manufacturer specifications, and facility requirements**
* **Maintain accurate records of electrical system operations, maintenance activities, equipment performance data, and regulatory compliance documentation**
* **Ensure compliance with all electrical safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and facility-specific procedures while maintaining a safe working environment**
* **Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and facility staff on electrical systems operations and best practices**
**Required Qualifications:**
* High school diploma or equivalent with completion of a recognized electrical operating engineer training program or apprenticeship
* Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience operating and maintaining commercial or industrial electrical systems
* Strong working knowledge of electrical distribution systems, UPS, emergency power generation, and building automation controls
* Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical documentation
* Demonstrated understanding of National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA standards, and local electrical safety regulations
* Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and basic computer applications
* Availability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and on-call rotation as needed to support 24/7 facility operations
**Preferred Qualifications:**
* Associate degree or technical certification in electrical engineering technology, electrical systems, or related field
* Experience with medium voltage electrical systems (600v and lower) and advanced power distribution equipment
* Knowledge of building automation systems (BAS), energy management systems, and integration with electrical infrastructure
* Certification in arc flash safety, NFPA 70E electrical safety training, or similar advanced electrical safety credentials
* Previous experience in mission-critical environments such as data centers, healthcare facilities, or large commercial/ industrial properties
* Familiarity with sustainable building practices, energy efficiency technologies, and utility demand management programs
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to diagnose complex electrical issues under pressure
