**What you’ll be doing...**
The Principal Cloud Platform Engineer is a senior-level position within our practice. You will perform tasks that are required to maintain and advance our cloud environment. The Verizon Cloud Platform (VCP) Webscale Edge Operations team owns the end-to-end operational lifecycle of Verizon’s Webscale OpenShift/Kubernetes edge platform — spanning 52+ regional sites. We build and operate clusters while partnering every day with application tenants, transport teams, and vendors to make sure critical workloads perform.
This position is responsible for deploying, upgrading, and supporting the VCP Edge platform infrastructure. The candidate is expected to look for and exploit opportunities for operational and management automation while performing as a subject matter expert for the technology. The PMTS will be a point of escalation for management, peers, and outside organizations regarding the operations of the system. The role is operational based and will require you to be the technical anchor between application owners, transport engineers, RedHat, F5, and internal VCP teams to find root cause and restore service. You will also contribute heavily to our cluster build-out POR, hardware remediation, and tenant onboarding operations.
Other responsibilities include:
* Ongoing assessment of the deployment process as well as implementation of new procedures to streamline the process leveraging AI when possible.
* Monitoring the operational status of equipment and take corrective actions where needed as well as engage with vendors, CVNF owners, and network personnel to resolve issues.
* Monitoring platform efficiencies, logging, and alarming while focusing on operational discipline and security best practices.
* Maintenance window activities, on-call duties and escalations.
* Troubleshooting failures and productivity impacting events.
**What we’re looking for...**
You are a technical specialist with solid credentials and a remarkable ability to find, break down, and solve problems. You work effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, and you are phenomenal at partnering with the groups you support. You constantly look for ways to make a great network design better, and you’re a natural mentor to junior engineers looking to develop their technical skills.
You’ll need to have:
* Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
* Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
* Experience working with Container related network functions (Kubernetes).

Even better if you have:
* A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
* RHCSA/RHCSE certifications.
* OpenShift certification.
* CCNA/CCNP certified or equivalent training/experience.
* Strong Knowledge of IP network services and protocols.
* Experience in reading and writing Shell, Python, or other variations of scripting.
* Knowledge with configuration management and orchestration tools.
* Working knowledge of file and block IP-based storage networking standards (iSCSI, NFS).
* Technical and analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot end-to-end systems.
* Knowledgeable in highly-available geo-redundant solutions.
* Common Carrier and Enterprise grade hardware (HP, Dell, NetApp etc.).
* Experience in utilizing monitoring tools (Netscout, SevOne, etc.).
