**Your Position at St John of God Bendigo Hospital** We are currently seeking applications from suitably qualified, Registered Nurses to join our highly skilled and multi-disciplinary Ward.  If you are dynamic and flexible nurse, with outstanding communication skills and the ability to provide high–level patient care then we want to hear from you. **PURPOSE OF POSITION** The Registered Nurse is responsible for the provision of comprehensive patient care and the coordination and supervision of care delivered by junior staff and students. **POSITION REQUIREMENTS** **2.1    Mission** * Capacity to understand and willingness to support and promote the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care * Commitment to organisation’s service ethos through the provision of excellent service * Caregivers are required to act in accordance with the standards of behaviour outlined in the SJGHC Code of Conduct document. **2.2**    **Position Responsibilities** **Patient Care** * The overseeing of total patient care. * Being aware of all patient’s needs, conditions, and progress. * Being in contact with patients throughout the shift. * Ensuring all patient needs are met. * Involving patients in their own care and decision making. * Ensuring nursing care is carried out and documented using nursing history, care plans and / or care pathway. * Ensuring medical treatment requests are carried out and documented properly, consulting with doctors if unclear. * Ensuring that nursing activities are planned and carried out in an organised manner. * Maintain & continue to improve technical skills such as the interpretation of ECG’s, insertion of intravenous cannulae, chest pain management, & other skills relating to Critical Care. * Ensuring all nursing procedures are carried out in a safe manner. * Ensuring that the quality of work performed is of a high standard. * Effectively carrying a comparable workload to other team members. * Working under minimal supervision and having the ability to make a sound decision. **Education** * Ensuring that patients are given necessary education, regarding their condition. * Ensuring that new staff are assisted with orientation * Ensuring that new and junior staff are assisted with ward routines. * Assisting with the education and support of students. **Staff Development** Demonstrates a commitment to continuing education and professional development by: * Regular attendance at relevant in-service education and appropriate study days external to hospital. * Attend all safety/fire demonstrations required throughout the year. * Participation in appropriate unit quality/research/education in collaboration with the Unit Manager. * Continue to seek learning opportunities and knowledge with regards to Critical Care nursing. All other reasonable duties as directed by Manager/Supervisor. **3.      Team Work** * Participate as a valued team member promoting and contributing to a supportive team environment. **4.      Communication** * Communicate effectively with all customers and patients using the appropriate channels, utilising appropriate formal and informal channels of communication. **5.      Quality and Risk** * Participate in, contribute to and implement quality improvement and risk management into all aspects of service **6.      Occupational Health and Safety** * Adhere to all applicable St John of God Health Care policies and guidelines. * Take reasonable care of themselves and others. * Not to interfere, bypass or misuse any system or equipment provided for health, safety and welfare purposes. * Take all actions to avoid, eliminate or minimize hazards. * Seek information on any work they undertake and be aware of the risks and hazards associated with their work. * Report all incidents / hazards / injuries. * Assist in completion of incidents / hazards / injuries reports. * Participate in the documentation of Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures for activities that could pose an OHS risk. * Raise OHS issues with appropriate caregivers and take part in OHS consultative arrangements. * Use Personal Protective Equipment as required and directed. * Attend all mandatory and recommended OHS training as scheduled by Group Services. * Promote a positive safety culture within their areas by demonstrating a positive commitment to OHS. **7.      Environment** * The caregiver, recognising St John of God Health Care commitment to responsible environmental stewardship, will support the organisational Environmental goals in performance of all duties. **SELECTION CRITERIA** ### Essential * A willingness and capacity to embrace the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care. * Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse. * Ability to use his / her initiative, demonstrate reliability and thereby require minimal supervision and guidance. * Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision. * Flexibility with ability to work independently with a team environment. * Appropriate skills and competencies related to Cardiac Services. * Self-motivated with the ability to effectively communicate with others. * A commitment to ongoing professional development. _At St John of God Health Care, we celebrate diversity and warmly welcome applications from people of all backgrounds._ _Our commitment is to create a safe and nurturing environment for all children and vulnerable individuals in our care and proactively take steps to protect them from abuse, ensuring their safety and well-being._ _Our inclusive culture fosters an environment that is respectful and secure, welcoming and accessible, and unified through our diverse community._ _All caregivers employed by St John of God Health Care are required to be vaccinated from Influenza in order to fulfil the requirements of the role._
