Job Description
ROLE PURPOSE
FinAgra is building a market-led farming operation: we grow only what has a proven market. This role brings the analytical and market-intelligence capability that makes that possible — turning live market data into clear, top-down commercial decisions that guide what we plant, where, and for whom.
The Sales & Marketing Manager designs and maps FinAgra's sales and marketing process end to end, builds the market-intelligence engine behind it, and strengthens our commercial and off-take work. This is a hands-on, analytical, commercially-minded role: comfortable moving between market data and dashboards on one side, and buyers, regions and field realities on the other.
WHY THIS ROLE EXISTS
FinAgra's cropping decisions must start from confirmed demand, not assumption. The company needs a dedicated owner who can:
- Build a live, region-by-region view of agricultural produce prices and market demand that guides top-down decision-making.
- Turn market signals into a clear answer to "what has a market" — feeding directly into the Agronomy team's crop-selection criteria.
- Design and run a repeatable sales and marketing process, from market intelligence through to off-take.
- Bring tech and analytical discipline to commercial decisions that today rely too much on intuition.
- Strengthen off-take and buyer relationships in coordination with Growth & Partnerships, without duplicating them.
- Grow, over time, into the leader who builds and manages FinAgra's commercial / market-intelligence team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
MARKET INTELLIGENCE & ANALYTICS
- Conduct structured market research across FinAgra's target regions and crops.
- Track live agricultural produce prices per region (e.g. KilimoStat-style data feeds, including paid data sources where justified), pulled in via web / API.
- Analyse prices and price fluctuations to understand market dynamics, seasonality and trends.
- Analyse the volumes the market can absorb, and identify market gaps and niches FinAgra can position into.
- Turn all of this into regular reports and dashboards that drive top-down decision-making.
COMMERCIAL STRATEGY & PROCESS
- Design and map the full sales and marketing process, from market signal to off-take.
- Feed market intelligence directly into the Agronomy crop-selection criteria, so cropping decisions start from confirmed demand.
- Build and maintain a live list of off-takers / buyers per crop and region.
- Support price validation and commercial assumptions used in Finance's crop economics and P&L.
OFF-TAKE & PARTNERSHIPS
- Work to convert market intelligence into concrete off-take arrangements.
- Strengthen and structure existing buyer relationships.
TEAM & GROWTH
- Operate initially as a hands-on individual contributor while the function is established.
- Over time, help shape, recruit and build a small commercial / market-intelligence team, and grow into managing it.
- Work effectively across functions and with the Global Team.
WHAT “GREAT” LOOKS LIKE
- FinAgra has a live, trusted view of regional produce prices and market trends feeding every cropping decision.
- Crop selection starts from confirmed demand — we plant what has a market, not what we hope has one.
- There is a documented, repeatable sales & marketing process from market signal to off-take.
- A current off-taker list and a clear read on demand volumes, gaps and niches per target crop exist and are used.
- Commercial decisions are evidence-based and defensible, not intuition-led.
- The function and, in time, a capable commercial team are built under this person as FinAgra scales.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Tech-savvy and data-driven — strong with numbers, spreadsheets, dashboards and data feeds / APIs; decisions grounded in evidence.
- Demonstrated market research and analytical ability, ideally in agriculture, commodities or FMCG.
- Commercial / sales & marketing experience with a strong grasp of markets, pricing and demand.
- Managerial capability — able to lead, and to help recruit and build a team — with the maturity to work collaboratively alongside existing colleagues.
- Strong communication and cross-functional stakeholder management.
- Self-starter able to design a process from scratch and bring structure to ambiguity.
- Relevant degree (business, economics, agriculture, agribusiness, data/analytics or similar).
EMPLOYMENT TYPE
Full-time |Hybrid| Kenya, with travel to field locations when necessary.
