Want to turn cutting-edge policy research into real-world impact for investors across the region? **JOB SUMMARY** The Senior Director, Capital Markets Policy will identify and direct advocacy activities and promote CFA Institute’s capital markets policy agenda, research, policies, and positions with the mission of enhancing market fairness, efficiency, transparency, and investor protection in the Asia Pacific region. The Senior Director will focus on financial market regulation pertinent to the investment industry and will work to help maximize the success of APAC Capital Markets Policy efforts. The position will contribute to the global strategic and operational priorities of the Research and Policy Center, monitor financial markets, conduct research on topics relating to market integrity, investor protection and professionalism, speak at conferences and CFA Society events and conduct other public awareness activities. The Senior Director, Capital Markets Policy will be accountable for determining, executing and managing the APAC Capital Markets Policy pipeline. This work will include tracking policy developments, identifying relevant investment industry issues for research impact and policy engagement, content development, execution and promotion with industry stakeholders. Accountabilities also involve conducting and completing consultation responses relating to legislative and regulatory initiatives, and other relevant APAC issues. This position will build and maintain relationships with regulators, standard setting authorities, and other relevant bodies who influence APAC financial markets. The Senior Director, Capital Markets Policy will work with the Advocacy strategic function and with other functional and country teams regionally and globally to ensure that relevant APAC and functional strategic goals are met.  The position holder will also be expected to liaise with the Senior Head, Research to ensure appropriate coordination with the Research function related to the research pipeline and the execution of research projects. The position will be expected to be the local senior representative for the promotion and deployment of the RPC product range with key institutions, CFA Societies and regulators. The position will be headquartered in Hong Kong and will be supported by the Head, Advocacy, Capital Markets Policy. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS** The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited, to the following: * Develop strategies for driving forward the Capital Markets Policy mission in Asia Pacific, ex-China and India, building relationships with Societies and senior-level representatives in both the industry and local regulators alike. * Liaise with the Research function and the RPC leadership to ensure appropriate coordination of the APAC research pipeline, in line with organizational processes. Act as local representative for the promotion of the wider RPC product range. * Accountable for identifying and gaining seats at tables and ensuring that CFA Institute is represented in setting policy within the Asia Pacific financial markets. * Implement efforts in the Asia Pacific region to promote investor protection and market integrity, improve corporate governance, and establish regulatory reforms that support fair and honest markets. Activities will include: * Conducting outreach to regulators, CFA Institute societies, investor bodies, and associations. * Developing and sustaining relationships with a broad range of industry stakeholders. * Collaborating with other internal functions of CFA Institute, including Research, Global Partnerships and Client Solutions, Society Relations, and other key stakeholders in APAC, including, but not limited to, the country organization for China. * Monitor forthcoming consultations in topics that are most relevant for the investment industry and for our members, and strategize the optimal way for CFA Institute to build a position on such topics. * Initiate and maintain relationships with regulators, stock exchanges, and other relevant standard-setting bodies in the region, soliciting views that would inform the APAC Advocacy agenda and project CFA Institute as an authority in capital market policy matters. * Execute capital markets policy projects and related activities, to include identifying research ideas and conducting and completing white papers, policy briefs, comment letters, magazine articles and blogs that address market regulation, corporate governance, and such other capital market issues deemed relevant to the APAC members and the Advocacy mission. Activities will include:  * Proactively identifying topical issues and shepherding them through the divisional approval process and development. * Convening working groups to assist in the topical discussion and development of relevant projects and industry developments. * Assisting in the development and promotion of new and existing projects. * Serving as content spokesperson for media and speaking opportunities and developing an active presence in financial media outlets and social media. * Deploying a range of strategies and channels (including, but not limited to, social and traditional media) to magnify the impact of such projects, thereby increasing recognition of Advocacy content and positions, and delivering additional member value. * Assist in the management of the APAC Advocacy project pipeline, including thought leadership projects, speaking engagements and sponsored events. * Becoming an ambassador for APAC Advocacy by actively engaging with internal and external stakeholders in order to raise both Institute’s and members’ understanding and awareness of the team’s achievements, and devising the most effective means of doing so. **QUALIFICATIONS** **EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE** * Master’s Degree preferred. * Minimum of 10 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: corporate governance, asset management, securities research, compliance and securities regulations. * Direct knowledge and/or experience in the investment management industry. * Experience in policy research writing is a plus. * CFA Charter preferred. * Fluency in English required; mandarin preferred; multilingual would be useful. * Ability to communicate complex concepts in a manner that is easily understandable.  * Strategic competence in identifying internal and external resources and leveraging resources to enhance the quantity and quality of outcomes. * Excellent communication skills including written, verbal (including public speaking), and listening. * Creative writing and ability to express clearly in written English. * Ability to develop policy recommendations that are consistent with CFA Institute standards. * Must demonstrate outstanding of stewardship and relationship building / management skills to expand the mission of CFA Institute. * Knowledge and experience of financial markets and issues in the Asia Pacific region. * Global cultural orientation and work experience. * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. * Ability to create new and unique ideas and have an entrepreneurial spirit. * Flexibility in competently juggling competing priorities and changing expectations. * Must demonstrate outstanding judgment and mature business skills with the ability to establish a strong rapport with senior management. * Excellent consulting, problem solving, critical thinking and analytical skills. * Willingness to ask thoughtful questions rather than just follow directions is required. * Ability to work in a team and independently. * Ability to motivate and influence others to achieve a common goal. * Ability to make sound, balanced decisions amidst competing objectives and contrasting perspectives. * Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with a high degree of professionalism.
