Senior Specialist in Research Funding

The University of Vaasa is seeking a Senior Specialist in Research Funding for a permanent position within the Research Services and Graduate School, which is responsible for providing and developing services and processes that support research activities and doctoral education. Our areas of expertise include research funding, responsible and open science, science and research policy, and doctoral training. The preferred starting date is October-November 2026, or as agreed. Your Role The University of Vaasa is strengthening its focus on international research funding, with a particular objective of increasing success in securing European Research Council (ERC) and Horizon Europe funding in the coming years. In this role, you will contribute to the preparation and development of research funding applications in close collaboration with individual researchers and research groups. You will support researchers throughout the entire proposal development process, from the initial idea stage to proposal submission, including budget preparation. Project preparation activities focus on funding under the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, particularly support for Horizon Europe Pillar I ERC calls and Pillar II thematic calls. You will also contribute to the university's EU advocacy activities and the strategic development of research funding in close cooperation with researchers, university leadership, other support services, and external stakeholders. Additional responsibilities include liaising with research funding organizations, identifying suitable funding opportunities and communicating them to researchers, guiding, advising, and coaching researchers applying for EU funding and participating in other unit activities depending on organizational needs, your expertise, and professional interests. What We Expect from You Required Qualifications and Experience:A relevant master's degree or equivalent postgraduate degree Knowledge of EU funding programmes (especially ERC and Horizon Europe Pillar II) Experience in preparing and managing applications for EU-funded projects Excellent English language skills an d fluent written and spoken Finnish Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritize tasks, as the work can at times be deadline-driven and intensive Strong writing, communication, interpersonal, and networking skills Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and work under tight deadlines Considered an Advantage:Doctoral degree (PhD) Knowledge of EU networks and stakeholder communities Initiative, flexibility, service-mindedness, and a goal-oriented, solution-focused approach to work We offer a diverse and challenging position supported by a team of experienced research funding specialists. Salary The salary will be based on the Finnish University Salary System for expert and support staff. The monthly salary is based on job demand levels 10-11 (3883-4429 €/kk) . An additional personal salary component is paid based on work performance.
