**Job Description:** The School of Engineering at Brown University’s Brown Design Workshop has a new and exciting opportunity to hire a Technical Specialist and Community Engagement Instructor. The Brown School of Engineering seeks a Technical Specialist and Community Engagement Instructor to expand the informal teaching capabilities in the Brown Design Workshop. The Brown Design Workshop is a student-run makerspace which aims to make the practices of design and creation more collaborative, open, flexible and accessible. In addition to supporting design practices to Brown students, the BDW also supports to multiple schools in the area through granting access to the facilities under the guidance of the student monitors and BDW staff. To expand our offerings to the communities of Providence and surrounding cities, the Technical Specialist and Community Engagement Instructor will be foundational in identifying new partners and developing programming unique that suit their needs and match our collective expertise. The University recognizes and rewards individuals on the basis of qualifications and performance.** The successful candidate, as a minimum, should have the following background:  **Education and Experience** Bachelor's degree in design, engineering, architecture or the sciences. 1-2 years related experience as a facilitator of workshops in a maker space **Job Competencies** Able to teach undergraduates from variety of backgrounds in a workshop environment. Experience with specific equipment and methods that are used in the BDW currently.  Bandsaws, CNC, 3D printers, lathe. Advanced communication skills with the ability to communicate technical issues and ideas in accessible ways to various BDW stakeholders. Excellent listening and collaboration skills, in particular with non-academic partners. Previous experience in an education setting, preferably in a higher education setting. Able to manage workflow and schedule. Initiative and ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
