**Thank you for considering a career at Mercy Health!** **Scheduled Weekly Hours:** 36 **Work Shift:** Days/Afternoons (United States of America) Job Description **Primary Function/General Purpose of Position** The Vascular Access Nurse is a Registered Nurse who possesses knowledge and skills regarding vascular access device placement. The Vascular Access Nurse will demonstrate appropriate patient assessment and safe placement of a multitude of vascular devices including: peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC – upper and lower extremity), mid-line intravenous catheter, intraosseous access, ultrasound guided PIV catheter, central venous catheter, temporary hemodialysis catheters, and/or arterial line. The vascular access nurse will have experience in insertion and maintenance of these lines. The individual will serve as a clinical expert, resource, and consultant to hospital staff regarding IV therapy according to professional nursing practice standards, specific facility policy/procedures, the Infusion Nurses Society Standards of Care, and the Association of Vascular Access. **Essential Job Functions** * Thorough knowledge and proficient technical ability in the use of vascular access device equipment (Ultrasound, ECG based tip location device). * Troubleshoot, access, dress central venous catheters as well as implanted tunneled central lines. * Educates and/or orients new staff members and serves as an educational resource related to PICC’s and IV therapy for patients, family members, ancillary services, medical staff, administrative staff, and the community served by Bon Secours Mercy Health Care. * Adheres to age specific delivery of care and the appropriate insertion of vascular access devices from the pediatric to adult populations. * Reports quality issues regarding products and services. * Collect and analyze data, enter charges, and reconcile charges as assigned. * Will serve as a clinical expert, resource, and consultant to hospital staff regarding IV therapy according to professional nursing practice standards, specific facility policy/procedures, the Infusion Nurses Society Standards of Care, and the Association of Vascular Access. Employees may be required to perform other job-related duties as required by their supervisor, subject to reasonable accommodation. **Licensing/Certification** Valid driver’s license (required) License as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio (required) BLS, Basic Life Support (required) ACLS, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (required) VA-BC, Vascular Access Board Certification (preferred, required within 1 year of employment) **Education** ASN, Associates of Science in Nursing (required) BSN, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred) **Work Experience** _2 years of vascular access device placement including PICC (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter) placement, midline placement, and the use of ultrasound guidance for device placement. (preferred)_ **Skills** vascular access device placement.
