Grade 3N (Hourly) **Position Description:** The Veterinary Assistant I at the University of Louisville provides assistance to veterinary and research technicians in the performance of their duties in a laboratory animal research setting. The veterinary assistant also provides pre-operative and postoperative critical care of animals actively involved in research which may include all shifts and working independently. **Essential Duties & Responsibilities** * Assist veterinary and research technicians with procedures and techniques. * Perform pre-operative care and postoperative critical care of animals involved in research. * Autoclave and sterilize materials.  * Prepare animals and surgical suites for surgeries, training labs, etc. * Perform and assist in the administration of injections and treatments ordered by veterinary staff. * Assist in the inventory control program. * Maintain equipment in surgical and laboratory facilities and clean and restock supplies. * Prepare surgical suite for surgical procedures and clean the suite after surgical procedures. * Laundry and organization of scrubs and lab coats for the upcoming workload. * Work weekends, holidays and be on call as scheduled accordingly. **Target Compensation Maximum:** $29.27 **Target Compensation Minimum:** $19.51 **Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.** **Equal Employment Opportunity** The University of Louisville is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer.
