Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is an open continuous announcement. Multiple vacancies exist and may be filled from this announcement at any of the locations listed. We accept applications on an ongoing basis; qualified applicants will be considered as vacancies become available. Major Duties: - Provide veterinary medical care, surgical care, and treatment to Military Working Dogs (MWDs), military horses, and other government-owned animals. - Provides veterinary care and treatment to privately owned animals as part of a program designed to prevent privately owned animals. - Provides routine care, surgery, examinations, and laboratory evaluations for the privately owned animals. - Provides veterinary medical treatment and services in the DoD facilities to authorized personnel. - Uses knowledge of regulatory health requirements required to advise on and make recommendations on transporting animals anywhere in the world. - Serves as consultant to the Medical Treatment Facility Commander and the Installation Commander on animal bites, rabies control, and zoonotic disease control within established regulation and guidelines. - Provides technical advice concerning food safety and quality assurance issues; identifies and provides technical information on microbiological, chemical, physical deterioration, and security of subsistence. - Supervises both military and civilian personnel, including Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) Animal Health Assistants, 68T Soldiers, and a NAF receptionist.
